Colossus - Castanea Sativa (Drawing)

£0.00
Sold

This impressive chestnut tree grows on the Cowdray Estate near Midhurst, West Sussex. The Cowdray Estate is home to many spectacular trees including the famous Queen Elizabeth oak.

This tree is probably an old coppice or pollarded chestnut, owing to its unusual shape.

Sweet chestnut trees are very significant to me. I have spent many years working in the coppice woodlands of Sussex, using the trees for basketry, building houses, and many other traditional crafts.
