This teasel seed head, gathered from our garden’s edge, was the perfect subject after a break from drawing. Its intricate structure follows the Fibonacci sequence. This self-organizing pattern, found throughout the natural world, optimizes space and resource distribution—a marvel of natural design.

Despite often being dismissed as a weed, the teasel plays a significant ecological role. Its bristly seed heads provide essential food for overwintering finches, while historically, dried teasel heads were used in textile production to raise the nap on woollen cloth. The teasel is a plant well worth closer observation—and well deserving of a detailed portrait.
