Lichens are a captivating blend of two life forms—fungus and algae, harmoniously entwined in a symbiotic relationship. Fungi, unable to produce chlorophyll, lack the ability to harvest solar energy like plants. Algae, on the other hand, are skilled in photosynthesis and have formed a partnership with fungi.
In exchange for a supply of vital nutrients to the fungi, the algae gain protection from harmful ultraviolet light thanks to the structure of the fungi. It's a dynamic where fungi play the dominant role, effectively "farming" the algae to produce the sustenance they need.
